TONALEA MAN SENTENCED TO 42 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

 


PHOENIX – Amos Boone, 51, of Tonalea, Ariz., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Rosenblatt to 42 months in federal prison followed by placement in a residential alcohol rehabilitation program while on three years supervised release. Boone pleaded guilty on November 6, 2008, to assaulting a Navajo police officer on the Navajo Nation.

        On March 2, 2008, Boone assaulted a Navajo police officer with his vehicle.  The officer had been trying to pull Boone over for an alcohol violation. Rather than stop, Boone rammed the police vehicle and then exited his vehicle and charged at the officer.  The officer was forced to shoot Boone who was hospitalized for his wounds.

        The investigation in this case was conducted by the Navajo Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Flagstaff, Ariz. The prosecution was handled by Roger Dokken, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
