Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Phoenix Division, John E. Lewis, and Chief Stanley Kephart of the Salt River Police announced today, June 21, 2006, that an armored vehicle delivering funds to stock automated teller machines in the Salt River Casino was robbed. The robbery occurred approximately 8:18 am on the morning of July 21, 2006 at the north side of the Salt River Indian Casino. Guards were stunned as the robbers used some type of chemical irritant inhibiting their sight. A firearm was brandished by subjects however no shots were fired during the commission of the robbery. Both guards were treated at the scene and were uninjured. The Salt River Police Department provided a description of the suspect vehicle to surrounding police agencies. As a result, officers with the Scottsdale Police Department located and stopped the suspect vehicle at approximately 9:00 am in the area of 7555 East Osborn Road, Scottsdale, Arizona. Scottsdale Police detained one individual and a second subject fled on foot. This second subject is described as being a white male, approximately 24 years of age, having short black hair, 6’ to 6”2 in height and having a thin build. The suspect vehicle was a 2004 Ford, dark green van with silver trim. Two emblems were on the front of the van, one on the hood and one on the windshield, advertising “Arizona Painting Company.” An amount of the money taken in the robbery was recovered with the subject vehicle. However, at this time it is unknown if all the funds have been recovered. Anyone with information concerning this robbery is requested to contact the FBI at 602-279-5511. |
