Christopher Rainbow Johns Apprehended

Acting Special Agent in Charge, Keith Bennett, announced that Christopher Rainbow Johns is now in custody. Johns is wanted on federal charges of assault with a deadly weapon and use of a firearm in a crime of violence.

On March 24, 2006, Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call for service involving a stolen vehicle. A pursuit ensued as Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle which ended as the driver wrecked the stolen vehicle on the Gila River Indian Reservation leaving the vehicle inoperable. As Deputies approached, they were fired upon by one male occupant who was able to escape from the scene. This individual was later identified as Christopher Rainbow Johns.

Because of the threat Johns’ posed to the community, a press release was issued earlier today that the FBI and the Pinal County Sheriff’s office was attempting to locate and arrest Johns. As a result of a proactive investigation conducted by the FBI, Gila River Police Department and Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Johns was apprehended shortly before 5:00 pm today, March 29, 2006. Johns was located at a residence on Snake Hill Road on the Gila River Indian Reservation. Johns initially barricaded himself in the residence but peacefully surrendered to police without further incident.
