The FBI plays two very important roles in cyberspace. First, it is the lead law enforcement agency for investigating cyber attacks by foreign adversaries and terrorists. The potential damage to the United States' national security from a cyber-based attack includes devastating interruptions of critical communications, transportation, and other services. Additionally, such attacks could be used to access and steal protected information and plans. The FBI also works to prevent criminals, sexual predators, and others intent on malicious destruction from using the Internet and online services to steal from, defraud, and otherwise victimize citizens, businesses, and communities. Investigations can include unauthorized access (hacking) violations, denial of service attacks, Internet fraud schemes, malicious code (virus and worms), or copyright violations.

Crimes Against Children

The FBI is responsible for investigating crimes involving child victims, such as kidnappings, sexual assaults, sexual exploitation of children, and international parental kidnappings.

As part of the FBI's Innocent Images National Initiative to prevent child pornography and child sexual exploitation committed via the Internet and online services, FBI Phoenix formed a multi-agency task force known as the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team. The SAFE Team investigates possession, production, and/or distribution of child pornography facilitated by an online computer, interstate travel for sexual activity with a minor facilitated by the use of an online computer, and sexual exploitation of children facilitated by an online computer.

To report child pornography and/or sexual exploitation of children, please contact the Phoenix Division Crimes Against Children Coordinator or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Tipline at www.cybertipline.com. The CyberTipline allows parents and children to file a report by submitting an online form. This form is then reviewed by analysts and forwarded to law enforcement.

InfraGard

InfraGard fosters the exchange of information between law enforcement and the owners and operators of our nation’s critical infrastructure sectors in order to identify, investigate, and counter foreign and domestic groups or individuals who threaten the American people, economy and government.  InfraGard is an outreach effort which supports all FBI investigative programs (Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, Cyber Crime, Criminal) by communicating FBI priorities and interests to members, by providing members with briefings and assessments to help them better protect their companies and organizations, and by providing a trusted forum for the exchange of information between members themselves.  The Phoenix Division of the FBI supports two InfraGard chapters, the Phoenix InfraGard Chapter (www.phoenixinfragard.net) and the Southern Arizona (Tucson) InfraGard Chapter.

InfraGard membership is open to U.S. citizens or Permanent Resident Aliens working in the United States who have been approved by the FBI through a security risk assessment.   There is no fee for membership in InfraGard.  The InfraGard membership application is available at www.infragard.net.  Questions regarding InfraGard in Arizona should be directed to the FBI InfraGard Coordinator at infragard-phoenix@infragard.org.
